Jonathan Swift was born in Dublin, Ireland. He was an ordained priest in the Church of Ireland and became Dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin. As an Irish writer he is known for his satires, sermons, poetry, political writings and essays. He is remembered today in particular for Gulliver's Travels and A Modest Proposal both of which are superb satires. "May you live all the days of your life" is from Polite Conversation, Dialogue 2,1738.
